Photographs of Hilbre Island

Perched out to sea at the mouth of the River Dee, slave to the tides but only a short walk away, I absolutely adore taking photographs of Hilbre Island and it’s something I’m most known for. I run regular photography walks out to this little island throughout the year and some of my favourite shots have been taken on these walks.

On a warm summer’s day a walk out to Hilbre is a breath of fresh air. During the winter months the coast creates a dramatic subject battered by the wind and rain.

Hilbre, though only small with only 3 houses an old lighthouse and a lifeboat station, stands looking out to sea. Steeped in history this little beauty spot hosts one of the oldest lifeboat stations in the country, the UKs 4th highest tidal draw and it’s very own grey seal colony. Hilbre Island’s cliffs and rocky shore are home to a range of wildlife.
