Sunset @ Athony Gormley’s Another Place
Join me for a sunset photography walk at Another Place, Antony Gormley’s iconic installation of cast-iron figures stretching out across Crosby Beach.
This walk is designed to coincide with sunset and the incoming tide, when the artwork feels at its most atmospheric. As the light drops, the figures become silhouettes against the sky, reflections form in the wet sand, and the sea slowly begins to reclaim the space around them. It’s a powerful, constantly changing scene that rewards patience and observation.
We’ll start from the public car park on Mariners Road, giving us easy access to the beach and a relaxed approach to the artwork. From here, we’ll gradually explore the installation, moving with the light and the tide rather than rushing from one viewpoint to the next.
This session is about composition, timing and mood. We’ll talk through how to work with strong shapes, negative space and minimal colour palettes, as well as how to balance sky, sea and subject as conditions change. Long exposures can work beautifully here, but simple handheld techniques are just as effective.
As always, the walk is free to attend (gratuity-based), friendly, and suitable for all experience levels, including camera phone users.
