FREE Winter Sunset @ Hilbre Island Photo Walk

Hilbre Island takes on a whole new character in winter – quieter, colder, but often at its most dramatic. This seasonal variation of my popular sunset walk is timed for the shorter days, with the sun dipping around 4pm. We’ll head out across the sands in the early afternoon, giving us time to explore the island before turning back as the light fades.

While we’re often heading home as the sun actually sets, the real show is often in the build-up – low golden light, long shadows and glowing skies over the Dee Estuary. The colder months bring some of the most vivid skies of the year, making the chill absolutely worth it.

What to bring:

• Warm layers, gloves and a windproof coat – it gets chilly out there!

• A hot flask of tea or coffee is always a welcome addition.

• A tripod is useful for capturing those low-light scenes, though not essential.

• Sturdy footwear (wellies or boots) is needed for the walk across the sand.

As always, this is a relaxed, mixed-ability walk and open to everyone.
