Cnicht Peak Photography Workshops

A mountaineers mountain with views across to Yr Wyddfa

In my opinion, Cnicht is one of the best mountains to climb in Snowdonia and that’s saying something. Cnicht is a beauty of a peak, from the ground it towers over the valley with a distinct pointed top but its bark is worse than its bite. The route is a challenging one but boy does it reward you at the top with one of the best views of Snowdon there is.

Not only that but after the steep climb to the top the walk down gives a more relaxing walk and also features a stop off at the old quarry ruins at Rhosydd too.

The Cnicht Peak Route

This one is a cracker!

The route begins at the car park in Croesor. We follow the main route up out of the town and up onto the main ridge. The ridge climb features a pretty clear route but two “false” peaks hide the final push to the top. Once on top of this beautiful rocky mountain, with 360-degree views around to Snowdon and Moelwyn-Mawr, we descend the back ridge and down into the valley.

As we descend we pass Llyn Cwm-y-foel and Llynnau Diffwys until we reach the old disused quarry at Rhosydd for a well-earned rest.

Finally, we follow the hillside path back down the valley to the starting point at Croesor.

Key Info

Route length: 6.47miles
Elevation Gain: 559m, 1837ft
Height at the Peak: 689m, 2,260ft

Route Difficulty: Challenging – The approach to the summit includes some scrambling but in general the path is clear and obvious. The initial climb is a bit of a slog but the descent is long and pleasant.
