When I set out to catch my train on Saturday, the last thing I expected was to stumble upon a massive foam art display. But then again, who would?
After wrapping up my Beginners Photography Workshop in Liverpool earlier in the day, I found myself navigating through a sea of food-dyed flying foam as Stephanie Lüning’s vibrant street art installation, “Island of Foam,” took over the city.
For nearly an hour, the foam shifted through a mesmerizing palette of yellow, red, blue, and green, slowly cascading down the steps. Every so often, a gust of wind would send the foam soaring into the air, much to the delight—and panic—of the crowd as they tried to dodge the colourful clouds.
Photographing this display was no easy feat. The large crowds, the intense brightness of a cloudless sky, and the vivid colours of the foam presented quite the challenge. However, I relished the opportunity to test my skills, and I’m particularly pleased with the shots I captured of the foam contrasting against the sky.
I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed taking them!
If you’re interested in honing your photography skills with more stunning public art displays, join me in October as I lead groups around Liverpool’s River of Light festival. It’s a fantastic opportunity to capture beautiful images in challenging conditions.
