Full Moon Over the Liver Birds – Gratuity Based Photography Walk

Join me for a special full moon photography walk along the Egremont and Seacombe waterfront, where we’ll attempt to capture the Full Moon rising above Liverpool’s iconic Liver Birds.

This is a shot I’ve been looking to get for some time — lining up the full moon perfectly behind the Royal Liver Building from the Wirral side of the Mersey. I’ve come close before (you’ll see the nearest I’ve managed so far on this page), but that image was taken from a completely different angle. This time, we’re going for the classic alignment.

So come along with me and let’s try and make it happen.

From the shoreline, we’ll carefully position ourselves to align the rising moon with the Liver Birds — a Liverpool skyline image that requires timing, patience and an understanding of how the Moon climbs after it first appears. The published moonrise time isn’t always the moment for the shot. The Moon needs time to rise to the right height, and I’ll talk you through how that works and how to anticipate its movement.

This session is ideal if you want to:

  • Improve your long-lens photography

  • Learn how to plan moonrise shots properly

  • Understand how altitude and direction affect composition

  • Capture Liverpool’s skyline from the Wirral

  • Build confidence shooting at dusk

Bring a longer lens if you have one (200–600mm ideal), a tripod, and warm layers. With a bit of luck — and clear skies — we might even capture the Liver Bird silhouetted against the Full Moon.

Fingers crossed the sky (and the Moon) play ball.

If the Moon doesn’t cooperate…

This is Britain, after all.

If cloud cover has other ideas, we’ll still make the most of the evening. The Egremont and Seacombe waterfront offers fantastic views back to Liverpool at blue hour — reflections across the Mersey, ferry movement, skyline detail and long exposures as the city lights come on.

Either way, you’ll leave with strong images and a better understanding of shooting across water at dusk.

As always, this is a gratuity-based photography walk. There’s no upfront fee — join me, enjoy the experience, and if you feel you’ve gained value, you can tip at the end.

A relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. No pressure. No competition. Just good company and great views.
